Hello, friends and admirers of the incomparable Brent Wilson, a Raleigh Legend! Welcome to the official funding page for Satellites: The Brent Wilson Experience.

The How
It is high time to create a documentary that chronicles the extraordinary life of the Fairy Godfather. While we have the time and passion for this project, we need assistance with funding for travel, accommodations, crew, and other expenses.

Your generous support will help bring to life a film that truly honors the incredible essence that is Brent Wilson, and it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey!

The Why
Why are we making the documentary Satellites? Close your eyes.

You are walking down Hillsboro Street, Raleigh North Carolina. Perhaps it’s Saturday night, dusk. The air is electric with the scent of dogwoods, the sounds of laughter and distant music, that feeling of potential energy.

From blocks away a figure draws the eye. Every other person and thing blurs as your eye focuses on a long, rail-thin wizard. He moves in a purposeful, loose-boned, high-kneed sort of lope. Perhaps he seems familiar. His outfit may provide clues, though you’ve likely not seen it before.

Pants, yes. Probably. But whether Raleigh blue jeans or purple pantaloons depends on his calculus alone. The climate surely factors into his choice of frock, duster or custom designed American flag jacket. A Tolkien’s dream of a white beard and flowing locks may or may not be in evidence below the hat.

My god, the Hat! Is it a disco-style yacht cap? A sleek cream fedora? Or maybe a two foot tall Russian Cossack hat. Whatever it is, it’s spectacular. You may wonder what it’s like to walk a mile in his shoes but, friend, be warned. Those are knee-high six inch platform soled boots.

As he draws closer you can make out the lean, positive countenance, the high, noble brow, the beautiful, wise and mischievous blue eyes. Your skin begins to tingle and your senses sharpen as his aura fairly crackles with energy, seemingly reaching out to draw you in. Surely you know this man, somehow.

Perhaps you’ve taken in a bit of theater in the Raleigh/ Durham area sometime over the past six decades. A menacing Rooster? Tortured Judas Iscariot? Joseph with his psychedelic threads? Prince Charming, or maybe a less than kind step-sister? You may be on the right track.

Or it just might happen that you are a lover of good music. You may have been around for the Easy Street grand opening and caught a blistering performance by His Boy Elroy. Or a cozy, intimate set by Four Black Doors for a local charity event. You may have stopped by Irregardless Cafe and come across a band called Psycho Cupid laying down swinging standards with fresh enthusiasm and timeless style. Maybe he caroled on your front porch with the Oakwood Waits. He might have been the guy who was called upon by Loli Oates or Rose Martin to come up on stage and help bring it home.

Could be you met him at Sadlack’s or Blimpy’s, Legends or Flex, Sunflower Cafe, Player’s Retreat or the Berkeley. Hell, in this neck of the woods it could be almost anywhere.

Or maybe you’ve never had the pleasure. Oh, fortunate soul, reach out! Don’t let him pass or, failing that, follow! Meet his eye with an open heart. If he responds (and he most surely will) buckle up for an incredible night. You don’t want to miss this ride, brothers and sisters.

You may sit with him as he regales with wild anecdote, rapier wit and startling insight. Hear him reminisce with an acclaimed actress of cinema about their victorious realization of his original masterpiece musical, Burger Baby, as high school prodigies. Or the best-selling novelist whose characters he debuted in original plays Walking Across Egypt and The Devil’s Dream. Join him for the weekly drag show as he supports and encourages his dazzling sister performers. Let him touch you and witness him touch others with profound effect. Have no fear of the officious cop or the homophobic redneck who seems at first so hostile. Given five minutes time they will be buying him beers and re-evaluating their core values.

Walk one night by this amazing man’s side and you may find, as I did, that your life is wonderfully and forever changed. Enriched. Enhanced. And oh, to end the evening alone with Brent Wilson, Fairy Godfather of Cameron Village , in a quiet, cozy corner as he strums his guitar and gently sings…you…to…sleep. Oh, Brent!

Now open your eyes and help us to bring this outsized persona to the silver screen. Satellites—align!

If you're not convinced already
It may seem trivial, but when the documentary comes out of nowhere to garner unprecedented critical adulation and goes on to be an international sensation and Brent Wilson is unanimously recognized as the galaxy’s brightest star and all the peoples of the world stop for a moment and take a breath and reassess their life priorities and start trying to do a little better at being kind and loving towards all living creatures and world peace is finally achieved, you’re gonna feel pretty good about that 20 bucks.
