Our dear, dear friend Mark needs our help and prayers right now. Medical bills are stacking up, and he is not able to work anymore. He is a fighter, and we want to help support him and his family as much as possible. He is a loving father of Courtney and Nicole, a grandfather of beautiful Scarlett and a precious baby boy on the way. He has a strong support system including his brothers and sisters, and his mother. Please continue to pray for him and any help is welcome and appreciated.
Here's where we are:
•May 2016 - Mark was diagnosed with Stage IV Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Head and Neck Cancer.
•June 4, 2016 - Radical neck dissection - Stage IV cancer
- Removed lymph nodes, internal jugular vein, and spinal accessory nerve.
-Unable to remove part of tumor wrapped around carotid artery - resulting in 37 days of radical radiation and chemotherapy and weeks of hydration infusions.
• January 2017
- Cancer resurfaced as an ulcer tumor on left side of neck.
- After oncologist, radiologist and surgeons renewed it was determined that additional chemo, radiation, and/or surgery were not an option.
- Began researching alternative medicine and clinical trials for immunotherapy drugs.
- Cancer drug Xalkori matched mutations but was not noted for head and neck cancer. Even though insurance had not approved this drug at the time, it was decided that it was in Mark's best interest to start the drug as soon as possible. This drug came at a cost of $350 per pill, at 2 times a day.
- With the tumor growing rapidly, it was decided to keep moving forward with the fight, therefore making the decision to pay out of pocket for Xalkori at $350 a pill, $700 a day
**Our hope is to help this incredible man and his loving family with the financial obligations that have occurred and will continue to occur during Mark's fight. Residual funds will be donated to Shriners Children's Hospital of Sacramento and the Cancer Research Institute.**
