This is Sammy. He was born with a chromosomal anomaly that resulted in him being a very special boy with many challenges that will be life-long. He couldn’t hold his own head up until the age of 2 and wasn’t strong enough to walk until age 3. He was on a feeding tube until this year at age 6. He is severely developmentally delayed and just now understands that words mean something. Although he can’t talk like we do, he has his own language that works for him.
At just two weeks of age, he underwent a lifesaving open heart procedure and has been recovering ever since. He is an absolute sweet, loving, and happy little boy; and even more importantly, he is our son. Sammy now requires a second open heart surgery this year in order to keep him with us longer. As parents we are terrified, but even more heartbreaking is the fact that he has a fraternal twin brother that has none of these challenges and understands what his brother is about to go through as he is smart well beyond his years.
Although we do have medical insurance, the plan will not likely cover all of the expenses associated with an extensive hospital stay and the assistive care that follows. Sammy requires many expensive therapies every week, and those costs alone absorb any income that is available. As much as it pains us to ask, our family would greatly appreciate any contributions to assist in his surgery and the resulting follow on care. We would also ask for your prayers and kind thoughts for a successful surgery and speedy recovery so that Sammy can enjoy the Holidays and his Birthday without concerns. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your time and donations. God Bless…
