Their Story:
A few months ago, our son Easton (2 years) began having seizures. We took him to a Pediatric Neurologist in March, where he had an EEG and was diagnosed with Focal Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. They have been trying medication to control the seizures, and despite increasing the dosage multiple times, his seizures are continuing to become more frequent and longer. They are now happening multiple times per day. At this same time, we were so excited to welcome our new baby into the world only to have that joy overshadowed by some very heartbreaking news.
The Neurologist scheduled an MRI of Easton’s brain to evaluate further. We had the MRI last week, just 9 days after welcoming our new baby girl, Alexi. Unfortunately, the MRI came back abnormal. They found that Easton has a brain tumor. The tumor is in the same area where the seizures are originating from. Although the radiologist is hopeful that it is benign, we are very emotional and devastated. Easton is being referred to Mayo, where a Pediatric Neurologist, Pediatric Oncologist, Peds Neurosurgeon, and Tumor Board will review his case and let us know the next steps. Mayo has expedited Easton’s case and wanted him down there this week for a pre surgical workup. Over the next two weeks he will have a minimum of 6 appointments. This will very likely be followed by a brain surgery to remove the tumor (even if it is benign).
Trying to enjoy our new baby and Easton being a big brother with all of this going on has been challenging. It’s going to be a process that hopefully is figured out quickly. Newborn cares, managing Easton’s multiple daily seizures, and soon needing to make trips back and forth to Mayo will require full effort from me and James. We are hopeful that we will get a good prognosis and have Easton cured quickly. We love you guys and would very much appreciate prayers for Easton!
