Love & Support for the Martinez Family

Donation protected
A little over two weeks ago, our friend Alex Martinez suffered a devastating stroke. He was airlifted to a hospital in Denver and received a handful of surgeries, procedures, and medical tests. Last Wednesday, Alex was strong enough to be transferred to inpatient care, where he has been working on physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He is now home with Kelly and the girls and is embarking on a long and arduous journey through outpatient rehabilitation.

Alex’s stroke has been devastating to Jolie, Rori, (college-age daughters) and Kelly. This tight-knit clan have been in crisis management mode every single day since then, taking turns driving to be with him, working, and tending to house matters, and trying to navigate the complexities of health insurance.

The blessings are that Alex is physically very strong. He is in good spirits a lot of the time. He is eager to work with professionals to gain back strength, fluidity, and freedom in all areas. Speech is limited at this time so Kelly has created a list of a dozen topics and question starters to which Alex can point for communication.

If you live in the Louisville/Superior area, you might see Kelly and Alex hand-in-hand walking the neighborhood, at Lifetime Fitness heading to a Pilates class or the treadmill, or at the grocery store naming fruits. The love this family has for one another is unshakeable, but make no mistake, people that know Alex agree this must be the most challenging situation for this Navy Veteran turned Director of Business Sales for Verizon who always puts his family first and works so hard to provide them financial security and an amazing life.

We know what a proud man Alex is, and we are equally proud to be his friends. Now I ask you to help support the Martinez family as they work to get Alex back up and running at full speed. Even with excellent health insurance, the co-pays for the extensive therapies will be astronomical. Additionally, Alex is not able to work at this time which adds tremendously to the family’s financial hardship.

Alex and Kelly joined me on my first yoga retreat in Nicaragua. I was struck by the strength of the relationship between these two, and the love and adoration they have for each other and their girls. I remember teaching yoga one evening, but instead of joining class, Alex was carrying pots of hot water to another yogi in their bungalow who was stung by a stingray earlier in the day. Alex has the strength and character to fight, please consider lending financial support as you are able.
