Love & Support for Sam’s Little Family

My Sam

Sam came into this world, the child of my little brother. My brother suffered horrible mental illness and alcoholism. He could not care for Sam.

Sam came to live with us, strangers to him then, at the age of 7. He had already suffered so much that I will never know.

Sam was always searching to belong, to matter. When he was 9, I told him “I don’t know all you have gone through, baby, but i know that God has big plans for your life.”

At 17, after graduation, he signed up for the army. He called me to go see the recruiter because he wasn’t quite old enough and needed me to sign off.

Sam always wanted to serve like his grandpa, and he always talked of big ways to matter.

I cried when I signed the papers. I cried again, when the recruiter asked him what job interested him, and he said”just put me at the front line.”

Sam served overseas and would never tell me where, or what happened, but i think he paid a price, again that i will never know.

Like every mother of sons, I pray for my boys to have what I have been given in marriage and I believe God answered that prayer for Sam.

Sam loves Kita with his soul and I know he leaves here loving her still.

Sam and Kita created a life here in Switzerland County and God gave them little Ryker.

Just a couple months ago, God blessed them with another son, expected to arrive this winter.

In anticipation of this life change, Kita longed for her mother, and so they left to be near her in Colorado. We hugged and cried as they left, pulling his new motorcycle behind the UHaul

On the second day of Sam’s new job, after kissing Kita and baby Ryker, I like to think he drove off in glorious morning sun, excited for his new opportunities.

In a tragic instant, a deer collided with his cycle, and Sam was taken from us.

I’ve been asking God how Sam’s suffering in life was used for His good. And He is answering that for me.

God answers as I look in little Ryker’s eyes. He answers in the love I see and hear from Kita.

God answers when I hear from you the impact he made on your life.

Sam and I had several conversations about God and life these last few months. Sam was seeking. God promises when we seek, we will find Him, so I have no doubt that Sam is with Him

It seems in my small perspective it wasn’t enough time, there was so much more for Sam to do.

I can hardly wait to see Sam again but for now we are left here to do what God determined we must do in Sam’s place.

We know God will show us how, one step at a time.
