Love Request for Aaron

My name is Misty, and our family is in dire need of prayers, as well as funds for my 35-year-old brother, Richard Aaron Smith. He was admitted to the hospital and spent several days in ICU, and he does not have any medical insurance. He has been diagnosed with advanced liver disease with a terrible complication of hepatic encephalopathy. What that means is that the toxins that can’t filter from his liver have built up in different places including his brain. Before we knew what was going on, he was having a lot of confusion, irritability, chronic stomach pains, weight loss, vomiting, and inability to eat.

We realized how bad it was last week when he became extremely confused, jaundiced (yellowing of skin and eyes), slurred speech, and unable to hold anything down. Things went downhill rapidly from there.

The doctors are saying that he will require a liver transplant but not sure when or if Aaron will qualify or even be stable enough for one.

As of today, he has been moved to a regular room. However, his mental status (due to the toxins) is still not where it should be. He is still in an acute state of confusion and is in an immense amount of pain. The hospital is now saying that they plan to discharge him as early as this Monday (8/02) due to no medical insurance. Aaron resides with our mother, who is almost 70 years old and doesn't have the physical strength, medical experience, nor funds that will be required to adequately care for him.

My sister and I are reaching out and requesting donations to aid in Aaron's medical expenses. We are in the process of trying to have him admitted to a facility that cares for his mental and physical health, as well as his alcohol addiction. We are praying that through his long road of recovery, he will be eligible to receive a liver transplant, that he so desperately needs.
