About the Album:

Late last year, we decided to approach artists that have worked closely with the campaign to see if they would be interested in recording a song each that would then feature on a ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ album. After a very positive response, we then got in contact with a couple of Glasgow based producers who were keen to get involved, and booked in dates for the tracks to be recorded. We now have an album recorded and very close to being fully mixed, and we can’t wait to share it with the world!

Up until this point all costs have been covered, but we still need to pay for it to be pressed onto vinyl, which we will then sell online and at our shows. Due to being unable to organize gigs to raise money to cover these costs due to Covid 19, we have found ourselves looking for alternative ways to fundraise. Covid 19 has had a devastating impact on the music industry at large, and of course our events-focused campaign has also suffered a blow. We fully understand that we are all facing extremely difficult times right now, and that money is a tricky thing to ask for. However, if you do feel like you have anything to spare, and want to contribute towards supporting a grassroots, anti-racism campaign - that has carefully curated a selection of up-and-coming artists based on their creative responses to injustice rather than their ability to pull in profits – then please do consider donating. So much hard work and love has been poured into this album: if produced, it would stand as a physical embodiment of the solidarity and unity we have been working to promote thus far.

We’re also so excited about the quality of the amazing artists featured, some of whom wrote brand new tracks in response to being asked to contribute. It would be heart breaking for everyone involved if we could not bring the album to completion at this stage, so any donations, no matter how small, would be so gratefully appreciated.

At this time, it’s easy to feel isolated and disconnected, which is why we want to get this album out into the world and into people’s hands more than ever. We can’t come together to dance and laugh, but we can get an album out that may lift your spirits, put a smile on your face and make you feel less alone. Our compilation album is unique in that it features artists from all over Scotland, from a very diverse range of genres, united in their support for the campaign and its message. So, if you can, please help us make this wonderful piece of art a reality!

The money raised will cover the costs of pressing the album onto vinyl, providing the artwork needed and packaging/posting the album to those that have donated.

-If you donate £10 you will receive a digital download of the album

-If you donate £20 or more you will receive a vinyl copy of the album with included artwork

Any donation small or large is very appreciated!

Love and solidarity, LMHR Glasgow

About the Campaign:

Love Music Hate Racism is a nationwide, music-orientated antiracism campaign that aims to bring people together and promote unity through the power of music. The campaign has local groups and branches across the UK, made up of musicians, community activists, campaigners and educators. The Love Music Hate Racism Glasgow branch aims to harness the energy and vibrancy of our city’s unique music scene to project a powerful anti-racism message.

We believe that music can galvanise a movement and act as an urgent call-to-arms. We challenge the dominant narrative of systematic racism by platforming artists who inspire hope and encourage resistance, and by spreading a message of unity over division into our communities.

Over the last two years, our Love Music Hate Racism branch has established a firm spot in Glasgow’s lively music scene. We’ve put on a number of sold-out gigs, raised money for other like-minded groups such as Care4Calais and Stand up to Racism, and organised a mini 3-city tour for the internationally renowned rapper, Lowkey.

We’ve formed connections with film-makers and the Glasgow Film Festival, and in March we threw an after-party for the screening of Rubika Shah’s film about the Rock against Racism movement, ‘White Riot.’ In the Summer of 2019, we were delighted to be asked to host three-day stage at Doune The Rabbit Hole Festival - a wonderful opportunity to commission exciting artists and poets, and to curate a programme of political talks, shows and family-friendly activities.

Throughout all of our events, our message has been clear: we want people to dance and enjoy themselves, but also to carry forward a revitalised sense of the importance of anti-racism activism in their day-to-day lives. Whether it’s challenging instances of everyday racism in the workplace or joining the fight on the streets at demonstrations against racist and xenophobic policy, we hope that our campaign can play a small role in uniting people in the bigger fight against racism.
