Love In The Time of Corona:Mission HS Support Fund

Dear Friends and Family,

Well I imagine we can all agree the global state of affairs is far from sublime and after 14 years as  a school social worker I've come to realize that all the systemic inequities and historical injustices of our country influence every aspect of the daily existence of urban public school students and their families.  From geopolitics to institutional racism to corporate capitalism, these powerful forces conspire to create an almost insurmountable challenge for our student body to survive and thrive in today's world.

During the last 3 months alone at Mission HS in San Francisco, a great school with an amazingly resilient and hardworking student body and dedicated staff, we've lost almost 10 students, staff and parents combined, to Covid, community violence, accidents and other illnesses.

We  have literally hundreds of families who are at high risk of losing their housing and struggling with affording basic necessities like toiletries, food, clothing and rent while also dealing with chronic disease, deportation proceedings, unemployment, mental health issues and not to mention hormonal teenagers cooped up with their parents in small spaces!

I'm asking all of you generous, lovely folks to consider contributing even a tiny bit of money to help families cover the costs of housing, food and other essentials and even presents for their children during this holiday season.  Every little bit will help our school community to get through these darkest of times, day by day, week by week...I know it sounds a bit dramatic but trust me when I say some folks are suffering much more than others during the year of Covid...

The elections are over, giving Tuesday is done and hopefully some of you have finished up with your refi's and have a little bit of money left over for donations to a great cause, namely supporting our families and students to survive distance learning and gain even a little stability and peace of mind  to be able to engage academically so they can thrive and learn and become the mighty leaders we will so desperately need in the future!

Much love to you all!  With gratitude, Chandra

P.S. Here's a Music Video  I just made with staff and students from MHS to spread some holiday hope and cheer to our community!
