Love for Rylan and the Abe Family

*It is with a very heavy heart that I'm writing to announce Rylan's passing on Wednesday, March 3. Please read the update from her family for more information. Any donations at this time will be used towards remaining medical costs and funeral arrangements. Thank you for supporting and loving the Abe family during this difficult time.

Our dear friends Paul and Tabitha found out shortly after their twin girls, Kyla and Rylan, were born that Rylan had a rare genetic condition called Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome.  Since that diagnosis in 2010, the Abe family has never stopped fighting for Rylan to live the best life possible. Despite many setbacks, operations, stays in the PICU, procedures, and countless doctors appointments Paul and Tabitha have remained positive and focused on the well being of Rylan, her twin sister Kyla (both 10) and their 5 year old son Treagor. Their strength, love and commitment to their family have been inspiring.

On July 18th, 10 year old Rylan collapsed at home and stopped breathing. She was rushed by ambulance to Children's Hospital where she was admitted to the the PICU for 24 days.  While at Rady's, it became apparent that there was not going to be a viable treatment available for Rylan. Paul and Tabitha made the heartbreaking decision to bring Rylan home under the care of hospice.

Hospice has provided the medical equipment and support to allow Rylan to be home with her family, but more is required for her to be comfortable and to improve her quality of life. These items are not all covered by insurance and are difficult for hospice to find for children.  For example, right now Rylan needs wheels for the machines that help her breathe and an IV pole so that she can be mobile in the house. She requires a specialized child-sized medical bed (with rails for her safety) that can sit up so that her breathing is less labored. In addition, Rylan can no longer be in her upstairs bedroom so construction needs to be done in order for her to have a quiet and safe space downstairs. The list of medical necessities that Rylan will need from now on is a long one. All funds will be used towards Rylan's comfort and safety and will help make the time she has the best it can be.

The Abe Family is so appreciative of the outpouring of love they have received and they are truly grateful for any support that can be provided.
