Lukas is the kind of little boy who brings people together. His family calls him their “unifier” — because just by being who he is, he’s filled their lives with love, laughter, and community.
He loves to dance, wrestle with his siblings, and chase after the family dogs. And no matter what he’s faced, Lukas keeps going. His joy, his determination, and his “just roll with it” spirit inspire everyone around him.
But Lukas has been fighting since before he was even born.
At 22 weeks, his parents learned he would have Down syndrome, a congenital heart defect, and a serious bowel condition. After complications during pregnancy, he arrived early and spent 11 weeks in the NICU. Since then, he’s endured multiple surgeries and constant medical care.
Then came leukemia.
For over a year now, Lukas and his family have been in a long, exhausting battle — one they were already worn down from before it even began.
And now, the fight has intensified again.
Lukas has been admitted to the hospital every month this year -about half the time in ICU-with pneumonia, viruses and asthma complications, adding even more strain to an already fragile situation.
Behind Lukas’s smile is a reality most people never see.
Endless appointments. Overwhelming medical bills. Exhaustion that never fully lifts.
Jess has been unable to work for over four years because Lukas needs constant care. David works full-time and spends his evenings building a home designed to support Lukas’s long-term needs and keep their family together.
They’ve already sold their home. They’ve already stretched every resource. They’ve already given everything they can. And still — it’s not enough.
