On Friday May 24th, Rance Like suffered a massive heart attack.
He was at work and was feeling dizzy and cold so he went to lay in his car for a while and lost consciousness. Dawn and had not heard from him all day, which was unusual, so she asked La'akea to call him. They couldnt reach him for several hours.
When he came to he remembers needing to call 911 but wasn't able to move and lost consciousness again. Although he doesnt really remember, at one point he came to again and was able to call 911. He was brought to the Emergancy Room via ambulance and taken into surgury right away. He had a heart pump installed to take over pumping so his heart could rest and hopefully start to repair any damage that may have been done. As all of this was happening his wife and family were trying to find him. 4 hrs later they learned where he was and rushed to him. That day he was not really responsive but talking some.

Most of his kids were able to fly out quickly arriving by Saturday May 25th. That next day as all the kids were with Rance he was coherent, most of day, telling jokes, and sharing time with family. Those that know Rance well, know family is everything to him, and that doesnt always mean by blood.

Things started to look good so the decision  Was made to remove the pump on Monday May 27th. During this process Rance suffered a few complications. At this point the decision was made to add an additional heart pump, for both sides as well as place him on a ventilator and sedate him.

Tuesday May 28th I got the call at 1:44pm that Rance coded and they had started CPR . By the time I got to the hospital he was back and stable. It was a long night of just waiting.

Wednesday May 29th, members from the church came to pray a blessing over him and Rance opened his eyes! He was moving his arms and started to cry. This was such a blessing. We want him to rest but he hears us and is trying to interact with us. What a blessing for some of the family members to witness that hope.
I have been talking about you all with him!

Today, Thursday May 30th the decision was made to start the process of taking him off all the machines. They did a few tests to see if his heart showed promise of strength, and it did!
Tomorrow at 8am, Rance will go to the Cath Room to have his pumps removed and a pacemaker put in and then the staff will go from there.

Rance has a lot of family, 9 children, several grandchildren and of course his siblings and others that are all here in town indefinitely. La'akeas Football Team, the Columbine Rebels, head coach Andy Lowry, and team mom Susan Gentry have been so generous in helping the family with food for the many and growing number of mouths to feed while they are all here.

However there are vastly growing medical bills that will need to be paid! Dawn has not been working this week as her energy needs to continue to be on Rance and her Children. So there are also household bills as well as a mortgage that needs to be paid while the family is holding together to understand all this.

I am setting this up so we can be for the Like Family what they have been to so many of us. They will never ask for help, they are too humble. They would much rather give us their last dollar than ask us for ours . But please help this family who have helped so many before!

Prayers and Love
