Update from Brad and Kylie on Layla. 3-19-2021. Post Brain surgery.
Today Layla had a pretty good day. She had OT, PT and SLP ( with a push from me) She’s more aware which is a blessing and curse because all the wires and head drain are up for grabs. Into the night I’m not going to sugar coat it she woke up later than normal this morning but just now feel asleep for the night. Her status is a tough call. When you have a non verbal child fresh from brain surgery she’s been difficult to read. We have had intermittent rashes. Which lead us to believe maybe that’s why she couldn’t sleep because of the itching. So they made it possible for her to get Atarax. So tonight Layla is getting her normal dose of three seizure medicines, IV steroids, IV antibiotics, Atarax,Gabapentin, Pepcid, melatonin, breathing treatments, nasal spray, inhaler, Zofran for nausea. And then she finally falls asleep. As parents we had to decide did we want to go ahead and give her the hydrocodone pain medication. She’s been primarily on Tylenol but because of her restlessness the nurse thought she was kind of having pain. We went ahead and went through with it because we didn’t want her not to be able to have the nausea medication with it later on if she wakes up in the middle of the night. Parenting is tough. Please keep us in your prayers.
Update for Layla Duncan! A new and very unthinkable issue has happened to our sweet, little Layla!! Layla has developed very serious seizures that can not be controlled. After trying several different treatment plans, she has been referred to a surgeon in Cincinnati for surgery. They will have to remove part of her left side of her brain. (Left Functional Hemispherectomy). This devastating news has crushed our family! Layla will have to be in hospital almost 4 hours away, again for 5-6 weeks during recovery. As before, there will be overwhelming medical, travel and living expenses. If you can help them with a donation for these items, our family would be more grateful than we could ever express!
Layla Duncan is just 5 year old little girl that’s not new to Go Fund Me. She received so much love and support at birth after being born with major heart defects, undergoing open heart surgeries, suffering two strokes and living her first 5 months at Peyton Manning hospital in Indianapolis, separated 4 hours from her daddy, family and hometown. Her mother Kylie was with her ever minute of those long 5 months while her dad, Brad was
at home working to keep job and health insurance for Layla. The separation for this family was
almost unbearable!
They have managed to overcome so many obstacles to only have yet another one wrap it’s ugly hands around this sweet, little girl. Any help for her would help so much!!
