As many of you may know, our best friends little girl, Lauren, has been diagnosed with a Malignant germ cell tumor. Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer- Lauren is only 10 yrs old so this is very rare.
Lauren started feel sick on Carrie's Birthday (Dec 18th). After visits to peditrician, the doctors just gave lauren anti nausea meds and did a Covid test. With Lauren getting worse, John and Carrie decided to take Lauren to Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital and demanded a CT scan. The CT showed a large mass on her overies as well as her abdomen. They where not able to operate due to the amount of swelling and decided to start her on Chemo. Fortunatly over the past 2 weeks, she has finally been taken off of her paralytic and they are starting to see some movment from her. She has finished her first round of Chemo and will have her second round in January. They have been able to remove 40 lbs of fluid! She is finally looking less puffy and been taken off of the blood pressure meds. She is still on a ventilator but hoping she will get to come off soon.
Lauren will still have a long road ahead- looking at 4 rounds of chemo over the next 6-8 months. She has a 90% recovery rate which is a blessing but with life long scans and the side effects of chemo. (hearing loss, leukemia ect)
I am starting this go fund me to help John and Carrie with medical expense and the cost of caring for Lauren. Carrie has a full time career, as does John, but Carrie will have to take a leave in order to provide care at home. Any thing that we can raise will help lessen that burden and allow them to give Lauren the best care possible. Every little bit will be appreciate!!!
