Hello, my name is Regina Killgo, I have not had to write a go-fund me before so I’m just going to speak from the heart. I’m setting up this fundraiser for my son, Kevin Kidd, Jr. and his family. I have seen from day one the struggles my family has gone through. Kevin & Rome were unexpectedly surprised by her pregnancy last year, but incredibly happy and blessed. Even more so when finding out they were having a girl. She was not due until January 21, 2022 but Rome went into early labor and their precious baby girl, Kyler Lakelie Kidd, was delivered via c-section on Christmas Eve. After birth they discovered that Kyler had difficulty breathing and was sent to the NICU for evaluation. They were told that immediate X-rays showed Kyler to have extremely underdeveloped lungs as well as possible heart defects and she would need to be transported to the nearest children’s hospital for further treatment, possibly by CareFlight but thankfully EMTs were able to stabilize Kyler’s breathing and she was taken to Cook’s Children by ambulance. They have been there since.
On Christmas morning, Kevin received news that Kyler’s condition was not improving and that family can come by to visit and say their goodbyes if she doesn’t make it through the night. A day we will never forget. Rome had to do a rush discharge from Baylor to come be by Kyler’s bedside. As we drove her to Cook’s I remember thinking we couldn’t possibly celebrate another Christmas the same again. We were so heart broken. They were able to call in a Chaplin and she was Baptized on Christmas night.
It was the hardest thing to watch your child about to lose his child. We all prayed harder than we’ve ever prayed. Kyler’s strength and determination was shown that night because she fought through it. A true Christmas miracle. We are so thankful for our Lord and Savior and for Cook’s children staff. Kyler has been diagnosed with pulmonary hypoplasia of the right lung. Both lungs were extremely underdeveloped, even at 35 weeks, but the right side is the more concerning one. She also has Congenital Heart Defect (CHD), Drs discovered holes in between both top and bottom chambers. X-rays show Kyler to have rib anomalies as well, where they were not properly formed & possibly fused together. Every day is a fight for our sweet girl and even though she is considered to be critically ill, with the power of prayer and loving support she continues to battle hard.
Kyler has recently had a Cardiac catheter procedure and is now trying to get over another bacterial infection. Our baby has just gone through so much. As of now, she remains on a ventilator and will need to have surgery to correct her heart defects. Drs don’t know when, it all depends on how healthy her left lung is. It could be weeks or months from now but she will remain in the NICU at Cook’s until then.
It’s been a tough and exhausting journey for Kevin & Rome, who also have 16 & 11 year old boys at home. The days are long and busy, juggling life in the hospital and at home. They hardly get any sleep worrying about everything. You worry enough about finances on an unexpected pregnancy, but now they are dealing with bigger issues and that is medical bills. It’s a difficult thing asking for help but we are hurting for their family. We’re hoping we can help raise enough money to ease some of the burden off, so when they take off work they can just focus on their baby girl and her fight to beat the odds.
