Thank you for stopping by to read Kaleb’s story! For those of you who already know his mom, Norma, you know she epitomizes strength and resilience beyond measure! She’s a woman of faith who refuses to slow down or give in. She has a son in the Marines and 10 year old Kaleb who was born with a congenital heart defect. They’ve come to know Children’s Dallas and now Medical City Children’s too well. Kaleb went in for what should have been a “routine” valve replacement on August 12, 2021. Things didn’t go as planned. Kaleb lost a significant amount of blood and coded. Norma had no idea the rapid response team rushing past the waiting room was on their way to save her baby. They ended up doing an emergency open heart and surgery went into its 13th hour. They couldn’t close his chest right away and sent him to the ICU around 6am on the 13th. What a nightmare. They did close his chest and wake him up on Saturday. Kaleb is still having complications and neurogenic effects from such an ordeal. He’ll certainly need cardiac rehab, physical therapy, and will now be at Medical City Children’s - Dallas for an unknown amount of time. When he should be starting school with his friends, he’s wondering how long he’s been in the hospital and when he can go home. My heart breaks for Norma and Kaleb. Please, please, please find it in your heartspace to help alleviate some stress for Norma since she, too, isn’t going back to work anytime soon. We can’t give Kaleb a new heart, but we can help Norma face this time with one less burden to bear. Whether you can donate money or not, please just pray! pray! pray!
