WHO AM I?
Hello, my name is Jessica Botello. I am a birth doula and a yoga teacher specializing in women’s health & wellness and Kid’s & Family Yoga.
WHAT AM I DOING?
I'm Fundraising for my trip to India to learn and train to be a Yoga Ambassador for Elephants Now, a non-profit organization working to save the Asian Elephants through film, trainings and outreach. Elephants Now specializes in conservation efforts including ethical and non-invasive deterrents, veterinary-care techniques, standards for humane elephant welfare, wild orphan rehabilitation and captive elephant retirements. When I return, my goal is to educate and spread awareness for the elephant conservation work being done by Elephants Now.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
The Asian elephant is classified as an Endangered Species. Over the past 75 years, the elephant population has been decimated by an estimated 50%. Humans are the biggest threat to wild elephant populations including habitat loss from deforestation and agricultural development, as well as conflict with humans as elephants seek space and raid crops grown close to their forest habitats.
The mission of Elephants Now is to provide support for the protection of elephants and their wild habitats. Elephants are one of Earth’s most intelligent animals, as well as being incredibly compassionate, gentle, and altruistic. They are also a keystone species, meaning they are essential to maintaining the biodiversity in the ecosystems where they live. Hundreds of different species of plants and animals depend on elephants for their survival. Where elephants live and thrive in abundance, all other wildlife thrive under them.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
My hope is to bring back the wisdom of the elephants to my yoga classes to encourage mindfulness and compassion for Mother Earth and all of nature that surrounds us. I need your help to make this happen. Please donate. I appreciate your support for this adventure of a lifetime!
Any amount that exceeds my goal of $3,500 will be donated to ElephantsNow for their continued conservation work on behalf of the Asian Elephants.
