On March 4, our dear friend Elaine lost the love of her life, Ben, to an aggressive and sudden battle with metastasized colon cancer. He was diagnosed just ten days before his passing, leaving Elaine and their loved ones in shock and heartbreak.

Now, on top of unimaginable grief, Elaine is facing the harsh reality of financial uncertainty. Ben was the primary breadwinner, and without his salary or insurance, Elaine must quickly find new employment while also navigating an abrupt move from their home in the coming weeks. She will need to cover moving expenses, secure temporary housing, and figure out her next steps—all while grieving this profound loss.

In addition, Elaine is caring for their two beloved rescue dogs, who were a source of joy and comfort for both her and Ben. One of them requires ongoing treatment for an autoimmune disease, adding to the unexpected financial strain.

Elaine and Ben built a life together in the Bay Area over the past eight years, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Before Ben’s illness, Elaine had just completed the University of California Master Gardener training program and was eager to start volunteering, finding solace and connection in working with plants and people. She currently works as a nanny but hopes to return to her career as a nutritionist when she can regain stability.

We are raising funds to help Elaine cover immediate living expenses, moving costs, and veterinary care for her dogs, so she has the time and space to grieve without the added stress of financial insecurity.
