Webster’s Dictionary defines community as “a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a large society”. I am so lucky to live in the Patchogue Village Community were families help each other out in so many ways. One of those families are the O’Reilly’s.
A few weeks ago, the O’Reilly’s received some shocking news about there middle son, Desmond. What they thought was just the flu for him turned out to be a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. He spent 7 days in the Stony Brook ICU and then another 3 days on the pediatric floor. The O’Reilly family still have a lot of adjusting to do and are taking this diagnosis day by day and learning as they go.
Desmond is a beautiful and smart young boy and is fortunate to have wonderful parents like Tom and Brooke who are trying their hardest to put on a brave face for him. But they know that medical bills will soon start to add up and that is why I have started this page. I know as a community we can all come together and help the O’Reilly with Desmond’s medical expenses. They are a loving family whose life has been turned upside down and need support and donation to get though this difficult time in all their lives.
In talking to Brooke today she said to me “I’ll be happy when my boy looks like this again this summer. Carefree and loving life.” Will you help me take some stress of this situation for the O’Reilly family and give what you can today?
