05/12 Daxtin desatted and brady-ed so low on regular ventilator that was at 100%o2 and was receiving less than 20% oxygen. An amazing respiratory therapist bagged him for 8 minutes while the doctors where getting the VDR ventilator set up and on for him to transfer too. X-rays showed he had pneumonia, his left lung had collapsed and his right was collapsing.
On 05/13am He was taken off the VDR ventilator but was still spiking fevers. That night Dax started to Brady and Desat again while on 100%o2 levels with dangerously high peeps. They ended up having to bag him again to transfer him back onto the VDR ventilator to stabilize him.
05/14 still on the VDR ventilator, when starting to desat and brady again they ran more labs that came back positive for rhinovirus. Which in any other situation wouldn't be a problem but since he is in critical condition with extremely difficult airways, it becomes very bad when combined with pneumonia and collapsed lungs. They started a "big daddy" antibiotic.
05/15 still on VDR ventilator. ENT had to cancel his bronchoscopy due to his health and will hopefully be able to do it on Friday or Saturday. So that leaves him intubated/ventilated longer than they wanted which can lead to other major problems. They also said that the VDR ventilator could potentially cause damage to his surgery site, which could potentially mean another surgery.
Continued prayers would be amazing.
Daxtin is 14.5 months old. He was born preemie with congenital subglottic stenosis but on top of that his airway was shrinking and they aren't sure exactly why.
Daxtin recently had surgery to reconstruct his air way. This is a list >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Surgery done- Laryngotracheal Reconstruction Double-Staged Repair for his front, back, upper and lower airways.
The procedure was suppose to have a minimum stay of 18 to 28 days in PICU, with 8 to 12 days being medically sedated and paralyzed. However, since having the surgery Daxtin has taken a turn for the worse and is currently in critical condition.
Sheree and her husband Jaric have 5 kids total, Daxtin being the youngest. Sheree lives 45 minutes from the hospital and between travel, medical expenses, and food this stay is accumulating unexpected costs for them quickly. It is undertermined how long they will be required to be at Primaries.
After they are released from the hospital, he will have to come back for monthly bronchoscopies and every other month for a throat "balloon" to continue expanding his airway and forcing them to grow. Till he is about 3 years old. Both the bronchoscopy and the "balloon" are considered surgeries and performed in same day surgery center.
Siblings are Donny 14, Tayven 13, Amiyah 5 & Declan 3.
I've put together this fundraiser to help Sheree, Jeric, and their other 4 children be able to focus on sweet Daxtin and to help alleviate any unnecessary stress at this time. If you can help in any way, even $5 it would help this family so much. If you can’t donate, please just share their story and add sweet Dax and his family to your prayers.
Warmly,
