Support Chris' Medical Journey
On January 16th our dear friend and colleague, Chris, along with his favorite girls: wife Lara, and 1 year old Sonia Ysabelle headed to a province called Subic, for a weekend celebration of their 2nd year wedding anniversary.
Lara shared that in the morning of January 16th, Chris was already experiencing some numbness on his right arm and leg. Dismissing it as just soreness, he did some stretching and carried on, jumpstarting their celebration by the pool. Eventually complaining of feeling progressive weakness on the right side of his body, his wife immediately brought him to a local hospital. Chris is a mere 38 years old.
While at the hospital, they noted Chris had difficulty speaking but had the ability to follow commands. While there, his speaking difficulty regressed to no verbal output. At that point, Lara decided to have him transferred to a more suitable & better equipped hospital in Makati City, 100 miles away from Subic, but near their home, and back to the metro Manila region.
Upon transfer, Chris was immediately admitted into ICU for monitoring and immediate care. A series of tests followed, which resulted in the diagnosis that Chris suffered what is commonly known as a stroke. (Subacute infarcts, genu of the left internal capsule, left front parietal lobe, cortical-subcortical, stroke in the young.)
During his stay at the hospital, Chris has had difficulty recognizing people, speaking, and is unable to move the right side of his body.
In the couple weeks that have passed, Chris is beginning to very slowly regain some ability to sporadically speak. As you may imagine, a long road of rehabilitation follows.
Chris' medical insurance does not cover all costs and has a maximum benefit limit. As a result, excess and future costs for Chris' rehabilitation medicine service for physical, occupational/cognitive and speech therapy will be shouldered by the family.
As we consider the added stress which financial burden can bring to families in these circumstances, we have decided to set up this page as a way to “support for Chris' medical journey."
We are reaching out to our colleagues, friends, friends of friends, with a compassionate heart who can contribute in a small way, to help a friend and his healing journey by sharing with others to help raise funds to alleviate the financial burdens ahead. We also ask that you continue to pray for Chris' recovery.
All funds donated on this page are deemed for the use of Christopher Sopoco & his health, with Lara Isabel Sopoco (his wife) as beneficiary.
