Support Atticus’s Cancer Recovery Fund

Donation protected

On Monday, October 12, 2020 Sara took Atticus to his pediatrician after noticing that his right eyelid had been progressively closing over his eye involuntarily. The doctor recommended fast-tracking him to an appointment with an oncologist. A series of tests revealed a 2.8cm tumor behind his right eye. That Friday October 16th, Atti had emergency surgery. Gratefully, the surgeon was able to completely remove the tumor leaving his eye unaffected. Atti recovered very well and left the hospital with minimal pain. Unfortunately, the pathology report diagnosed his tumor as Rhabdomyosarcoma of the orbit, a rare type of cancer.

Atti’s team of doctors have great confidence in his next course of treatment, having prescribed a plan that calls for 24 weeks of treatments that include chemotherapy with six weeks of radiation. Atti is already three weeks into his treatment and is responding well. However, it is very hard on his little body, even one with such a mighty spirit. He had an unexpected stay in hospital after his second treatment for a fever, but has since been released, and Atti is doing much better.

The radiation recommended for Atti is a pediatric state of the art proton therapy that is not available in Tennessee.  Atti and Sara will need to relocate out of state for six weeks in the middle of his treatment plan to receive this therapy.

As word has spread of Atti’s cancer diagnosis, the outpouring of support and love have been a real comfort to the Lindahl/Patterson families. So many have reached out asking how they can help. Going forward, this fund and the money raised here will help offset the cost of relocation and any ensuing medical bills not covered by insurance.

Throughout all of this, Atticus has been very brave at one daunting doctor’s appointment after another and is still his sweet, loving and funny self.  We would like to keep everyone updated on Atti’s progress on his treatments through this page.  Thank you for being one of Atti’s Allies!
