Josie and Mike go on a hike, and Josie’s prepared to propose – she just needs to find the right moment… and also the ring… and also… why is that sheep looking at her weirdly? And why does it look so much like her dead brother?
Written by North Yorkshire playwright and screenwriter ANNIE CHADWICK and directed by MARIELLA HUDSON, LOVE EWE is an uphill journey into the psyche, chased by repressed memories and sheep. Don’t worry – there are enough custard creams to go around.
If this sounds like the kind of film you’d like to watch - we need your help to make it happen!
We’ve spent the last year researching, workshopping Annie's incredible script with professional actors, and growing our team of six crew members and three production and post-production creatives, including both seasoned and aspiring professionals. Now all we need are the funds to get us from London to Pen-y-Ghent!
None of our cast and crew are receiving payment for our work on this project - all of us have volunteered a week of our time because, first and foremost, we love the script; and because we want to expand our experience so we can move forward in our filmmaking careers. We are committed to making this project as sustainable and economical as possible in the following ways:
- Our budget will cover an extensive grocery shop, allowing us to cook healthy meals to sustain us over two long days of outdoor filming, plus one day of prep
- Our budget will cover the cost of accommodating us in a location near our shoot, avoiding car emissions
- Our budget will cover the cost of train journeys from London to Yorkshire and within London, again avoiding car emissions
- We will hire sound kit from a local production company to support the local economy
- We will use our own camera/grip equipment
- We will all use reusable water bottles, thermoses and crockery to avoid plastic waste
The total budget we will need to cover these costs, plus a 5% contingency, is £2592. If we can raise that, we can make the film.
If this sounds like something you would like to support, we would be so grateful if you could contribute to our fundraiser. If you leave your name and email, we will send you a personal link to the film upon completion in 2024.
Thank you for reading, and if you can, please share this with more people who love great films!
~~~MORE ABOUT OUR TEAM~~~
ANNIE CHADWICK (screenwriter) is a playwright and screenwriter from Yorkshire. Her work has appeared on Northern Broadsides Theatre Company’s Winter Tales audio stories alongside Simon Armitage. She would kill for a gluten-free custard cream.
MARIELLA HUDSON (director) is an Irish-Peruvian director with seven years of experience directing short documentaries and three years of experience directing plays. This is her first narrative short. She would choose a chocolate bourbon over a custard cream, but she’s always been a divisive figure.
JESSICA ELSIE (lead actor) is an actor from Leicester and Hackney. She trained at Drama Centre and Cours Florent. She’ll take her dairy-free custard cream with a cup of black coffee, please.
DIEGO CÁRDENAS SEDANO (director of photography) is a cinematographer and director from Peru with ten years of experience in audiovisual projects. He recently completed his Masters in cinematographic direction at ESCAC Escola superior de cine i audiovisual de Catalunya.
