Love and Support the Family of Machuar Madut
This fundraiser was created by Jayda Hope and Justice 4 Black Lives Winnipeg with the full approval and consent of the Machuar Madut family. J4BLW is in regular contact with the family, and community care is needed to make sure that Machuar’s loved ones are well taken care of in the wake of his abrupt passing. All proceeds donated to this fundraiser will go directly to the Madut family to show them the full love and support they deserve after losing such an important and valued loved one.
Machuar Madut was a loving, kind, gentle and caring soul. He should continue to be remembered as such. His passion for life and his family was truly limitless. The joy he brought to those around him was exponential. The way he overcame obstacle after obstacle to become the absolute best version of himself is one of the most admirable qualities you can find in a person.
His life was taken far too soon at the hands of the Winnipeg Police Service in February of 2019. Had Madut been met with de-escalation, rather than guns, racial bias and police violence, he would still be here today.
Madut was a family man who cherished and took care great of his children. He leaves behind beautiful and brilliant sons and daughters who deserve to be financially secure and stable at the very least. Losing a parent can be extremely traumatic and heartbreaking. Capitalistic concerns should be the last thing this family has to focus on at this time.
We all have a part to play in making sure community support and love extends to this family in their time of need. We all need to do our part to make sure that Machuar’s legacy lives on by supporting and loving on his family. We all have a part to play in making sure the narrative being told surrounding Machuar is an accurate one, not one which vilifies a man, for simply existing. Machuar should still be here to see his children grow up, attend university, and fall in love. He should be here to walk his daughters down the aisle. He should have the opportunity to be surrounded by the love, laughter, light and joy in which his family exudes. Due to WPS misaction, this is no longer a possibility.
The Madut family is now a single parent, and single income household which creates a lot of pressure and additional stress. All money donated to this GoFundMe will go directly to the family. This will help cover any living expenses (food, rent, gas, groceries etc.), miscellaneous expenses, or hardships they may be experiencing. All donations will also enable to the family to pursue justice for Machuar in a way that can also bring healing and closure. This fund will allow the family to access any mental health resources they may require or desire. This fund will allow all of the children a fair shot at a high-quality future despite the trauma that has been inflicted upon them. It will allow the family to save and prepare for any other emergencies that may arise.
After getting to know this family, it is clear every single one of them has magnificent dreams, desires and aspirations. As a community we have to come together, to uplift the family and help them achieve anything they desire. While Madut’s name, his life story and case details fade in and out of the media, his family will continue their pursuit of happiness, freedom, joy and justice in his honour. Any and every donation made, counts, and is extremely cherished by the family. Help us show the Madut family that they are loved, cared for and have NOT been forgotten by their community.
