Last Fall on October 1st 2020 our Dad (Gary) was having server pains and not feeling good so he went to St. Luke’s ER In Duluth where he was admitted and needed to have surgery. They did a ERCP and placed a couple stents into his bile duct. Unfortunately during this procedure it irritated his pancreas giving him severe pancreatitis. In the following weeks they did multiple CT scans, Ultrasounds, blood tests, blood transfusions, placed drain tubes and still were not able to make much headway. One of the GI doctors recommended he see more specialized doctors in Minneapolis, so on November 27th he was transferred from St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth to Fairview University hospital in Minneapolis. Upon arrival, a new team of doctors ran a bunch of tests and found he had Necrotizing Pancreatitis. Like Duluth they too have been doing many CT scans, blood tests, placed more drain tubes and have been doing surgeries almost weekly to remove dead tissue from the pancreas. He has been getting TPN and tube feedings for nutrition. It has been an awfully long slow process and still more surgeries to do as they get the area cleaned up and hopefully be able to determine what the original issue was prior to October 1st. Our mom (Wanda) has taken an unpaid leave from work to be by his bedside everyday both in Duluth and again starting a couple weeks ago once the hospital lifted the “no visitors” restriction in Minneapolis. The hotel, medical and monthly bills are starting to take their toll, and we are asking those who are interested in donating can do so through this go-fund-me page. As well, we continue to ask to keep our dad in your thoughts and prayers to get better soon.
