Love and Support for Steve & Kahla of Leef & Stem
Donation protected
Steve and Kahla are a young family, creative entrepreneurs and the owners of Leef and Stem Culinary Company in downtown Langley. Recently they have been hit with more than their fair share of life trials and disasters.
This last year while fighting thru the Covid 19 Pandemic and continuing to serve the community, Leef and Stem was broken into 3 times. Currently they are still in the process of working thru the insurance claims for all the break-ins. Last weekend Steve went into Leef and Stem and discovered the entire building, owned by his landlord, was flooded with 6” of water. A main water line broke under the building and created a catastrophic flood. Steve and his staff worked to mitigate losses lifting all the equipment off the ground. However the damage is currently so great that the leak has not been repaired and water has not been restored to the building. Because the building is owned by someone else, there is no indication as to when this issue will be resolved. Without water Leef and Stem is unable to open.
Steve and Kahla, love people and have four young children. Kahla is a teacher, this past year just as the pandemic hit, Kahla discovered a former student and her brother were homeless. Steve and Kahla welcomed these teens into their home. Supporting 4 kids, 2 teens and husband and wife is not easy when your livelihood disappears over night.
During the pandemic Steve worked hard to donate and support places like the Langley Lodge by donating healthy meals to all the staff while many in the lodge were fighting Covid 19. Steve is an incredibly generous man.
Steve and Kahla truly want to make a difference in our community when it comes to healthy food, healthy living and safe spaces for young people. Their concept for Leef and Stem is the only one of its kind in Langley. Together they have worked side by side to build the Leef and Stem brand. They have a wonderful committed clientele who will truly miss their presence until the restaurant is back up and running.
To be frank this is not a situation where they can turn to insurance, 3 break-ins and 3 outstanding claims does not work in their favour. To make another claim would impact their insurance so negatively that they are unable to file for this loss. Although Leef and Stem is ready and able to be up and running, the building has no water and that doesn’t look like it's going to be fixed anytime soon.
This Go Fund me is to bridge the gap for them while the restaurant remains closed indefinitely. Many of us helping Steve and Kahla would love to see a new location for them where these types of issues are a thing of the past. For now, any help with food and rent while the restaurant is unable to run would be a huge and significant help. Please consider helping this very worthy young family simply trying to make an honest living and a healthy difference in our community.
Lastly, to help you understand this couple, this is the note they posted on the door of their business after the third break in. "Please don’t break into our business if you are hungry or in need, simply come in and tell us, we will help you’"
