Jerik went in January 11th because he had not been eating well and going several hours between eating plus acting very uncomfortable and we began to worry about his breathing with his stomach sucking in and seeing his ribs. They did an X-ray and noticed his heart was about 1/3 larger than it should be. So they did an echo and then They got in contact with A cardiologist at Randall’s children hospital in Portland. Turns out he has a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) which is basically a hole in the wall between the two ventricles and a heart murmur. Which they are pretty sure the heart murmur is because of his VSD. They sent him by ambulance to Randall’s just in case. Once he arrived at Randall’s they did another echo to be certain about everything. They put him on lasix to help get any fluid that happened to get into the lungs. So he has that every 12 hours and they put a nasogastric or NG tube that goes through his nose and into his stomach because he still won’t eat enough to make him gain the weight he needs to. VSD patients have more trouble gaining weight because even the simplest things like eating can make it feel like he just ran a marathon. He will eat small amounts with the bottle so hoping he will continue to improve with that! Once we discharge from the hospital they will set a 2 week appointment to meet with the cardiologist and I believe have another echo to make sure nothing has changed and then they will schedule an open heart surgery to close the hole if it is still the same size. Thank you for all your prayers and support!! We ask for continued prayers that he will grow and eat and that God would heal the hole!!
