Love and support for Chris Ong

Donation protected
On February 7th, 2017, our beautiful mother suffered a massive stroke and was ultimately called home by our Heavenly Father on February 19th.

Christi Lynn Ong, aka “CoCo,” was a devoted woman of God and a servant leader. CoCo worked harder than anyone we knew, and she loved to laugh and play just as hard with her family and friends. She was proud, but incredibly humble. Her wisdom and wit were often relayed in pithy sayings (we’ve dubbed them CoCoisms), often drawn from scriptures, such as, “To whom much is given, much is required.”

Chris was born in Bellflower, California July 20, 1956 to Melvin and Mary Kathryn Morrison. As a child, Chris would wait on the front porch for her dad to come home from work so they could throw the ball around and practice her pitching. Her dad would pretend that her pitches were so fast that they burned his glove. As Chris would later do for her own children, Mary Kathryn went to every single softball game she played to support her. The youngest of three children, her older brother, Mel, always knew when she had snuck into his room and taken coins from his dresser. Her older sister, Mindy, was her closest friend and confidant growing up (if you want a good CoCo story, ask “Sis”). Mindy remembers that Chris had a giving and compassionate heart, even from a young age. Chris would save up her lunch money to rent a television for the family for a week or a lawn mower in order to mow the family’s overgrown lawn.

Chris was a loving wife and best friend to Marc Ong. They met in San Juan Capistrano. When he went to a McDonald’s for a fish sandwich on Friday, a cashier with strawberry blonde hair, crystal blue eyes and a captivating smile caught his eye. He moved to her line, and well, the rest is history, as they say.

Before she met Marc, Chris wanted to be a nun and didn’t want children. She and Marc agreed to have one child when she was thirty-six. We all know how that worked out. By that age, she had all six: Carah Ong Whaley, Emily Smiley, Lauren Borchmann, Stacey Marchioni, Nathan Ong and Micah Ong. “I just LOVE all my children,” she could often be heard saying, especially once they were all grown up and out of the house. When people asked why she had so many kids, Chris retorted, “I found something I was good at!” CoCo also adored her eight grandbabies: Wyatt and Carson Smiley; Brady and Grace Marchioni; Ever and Cade Whaley; and Ethan and Weston Ong.

CoCo always told us, “Your family are your best friends.” But Chris also had an ever-broadening and encompassing definition of family that included her dear friends and their families, her children’s friends, and her co-workers.

We “love you to the moon and back” Coco! And bigger than that.

We appreciate anything you can give - every dollar will go to helping support her husband Marc and the rest will be donated to the missionaries at our church!
