On February 15, our lives changed in an instant.
Bob went to crawl into bed beside Bev for an afternoon nap and immediately knew something wasn’t right. Bev’s speech was slurred, and she was unable to move the left side of her body. Bob called 911, and she was rushed by ambulance to Swift Current.
At the hospital, doctors determined that Bev had suffered a severe ischemic stroke caused by an M1 Middle Cerebral Artery right occlusion. She was given clot-busting medication in Swift Current, but tragically experienced a rare reaction that caused further bleeding in her brain. Her condition deteriorated quickly, and she was airlifted to Saskatoon for an emergency thrombectomy. Since arriving in Saskatoon, she has remained in critical condition. She is currently facing life-altering symptoms including loss of movement on the left side of her face and body, impaired spatial awareness, slurred speech, and difficulty swallowing. We do not know yet how her cognition will be impacted.
And yet — Bev is still fighting.
Every day we see small signs of progress. Small victories. Moments of strength. She is working so hard, and we are incredibly proud of her. But the road ahead is long and uncertain. It is too early for doctors to predict how long she will remain in acute care, how long her total hospital stay will be, or what her rehabilitation journey will look like. It is likely she will require a transfer to a specialized rehabilitation facility once she is stable.
Bev and Bob have been married for 38 years. They never spend time apart. Bev has always been Bob’s rock — managing the bills, preparing meals, doing the groceries, and caring for him in countless quiet, everyday ways. Now, she needs him.
Bob needs to be by his wife’s side, and she needs her husband and extended family close to support her through this recovery. The emotional toll is immense, and there will also be financial pressures as they navigate travel, accommodations, and the unknown expenses that come with long-term recovery and rehabilitation.
We are asking for your support to help ease the financial burden so that Bob can focus on being where he belongs — beside Bev — and so that Bev can focus fully on healing.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Every message, share, and donation means more than we can express.
Bev is a fighter and with your support, she won’t fight alone.
