Aidyns Update
July 12, 2023
Aidyn remains in the hospital for now, still a little tender from the surgery but up and moving around well. His feedings were delayed due to a concern with the J tube that was to by-bass the stomach into the small intestine for feedings, they found it flipped into his stomach. To fix is another surgical procedure so they will need to wait approx 4 weeks for any fix, this tube will remain but is useless for now. So decided to start feeds-by mouth and not bypass the stomach as planned. Started clear liquids by mouth 1oz every 3 hours on Friday, this went well so they upped him to 2oz every 3 hours yesterday. He is still receiving 20 hours of IV nutrition and IV antibiotics once a day for the line infection that came out right before surgery so he still has the pic line. They are no longer draining his stomach, they have now switch to what they call venting. They say its the next steps to help feeding the bag connected to the G tube in his stomach that use to collect drainage by gravity is now hung above him at all times helps relieve pressure and gasses from building up. In simple terms we are told as long as fluids don't make it to the bag its a good thing and that has been the case so far. So he has had some positives and we hope will continue to have these small wins so they can keep progressing with his small steps forward.
Thank you to everybody for your continued thoughts and prayers!
Hello,
We are asking for prayers for our Aidyn Xander Lee 14-month-old son of Hallie and Robbie Lee. He has been hospitalized since 4/24/23. Shortly after his 1st birthday Aidyn became sick with what seemed to be a stomach flu. After two days we realized with discolored uncontrollable vomiting it was something more. An ambulance ride to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital turned into way more than anyone expected.
After arriving at the hospital blood test showed a dangerously low hemoglobin count, Aidyn was immediately admitted and given a blood transfusion. After multiple blood tests, Xray’s, scopes, sonograms, CT scans, GI studies, they found that Aidyn had a GI bleed and ulcer causing a GI blockage at the pylorus between his stomach and small intestine. Drs decided that a pic line was necessary so that he could be given IV nutrition in place of food and liquids so nothing by mouth. However, natural acids and secretions continued to produce and collect in his stomach causing him to be sick consistently so a drainage tube through his nose into his stomach has been the solution.
Aidyn is hooked up to IV’s 18 to 20 hours a day and must have his stomach pumped every 3 hours to remain stable. Drs are giving time for medication and natural healing of the ulcerated area to heal. They hope for an opening of some sort to insert a feeding tube and balloon to open a passage. This is in hopes of not having to perform a more evasive surgery option that has a more difficult healing time for him. However, Aidyn is in his last week of the waiting time and no change has occurred for the lesser evasive solution, a scope this coming Monday will determine next steps in his care plan. Surgery at this point is looking unavoidable.
We have heard from so many wanting to help in some way, so we have decided to launch a go fund me page for those interested. The money will be used towards expenses, for Aidyn and his family. We would like to send thanks to everyone for your inquiries, prayers and all the love shared with us during this time. Please continue to pray for our little guy and his full fast recovery.
