A Heartfelt Appeal for Miguel's Mother
Miguel, a beloved friend and member of our community, is facing an unexpected challenge. His mother, Flor Martínez, was struck by a stray bullet, suffering severe organ damage and requiring urgent medical attention.
On Sunday, November 17 2024, Flor and her husband were shopping in downtown Bogotá, preparing for their visit to Canada. In the San Victorino neighborhood, they heard distant gunfire, initially thinking it was fireworks. However, the shooting drew closer, and a perpetrator pushed them against a door amidst police and assailant gunfire. Flor fell to the ground, uncertain who had shot her.
In desperation, her husband hailed a taxi, but traffic hindered their progress. An ambulance eventually arrived, rushing Flor to the hospital. She underwent three surgeries, including kidney removal and colon reconstruction. Thankfully, medical staff successfully rebuilt her colon.
After these surgeries, Flor was transferred to a recovery room but soon experienced oxygenation issues and respiratory distress. Following a week-long study, doctors diagnosed a mild cerebral infarction, indicating minimal long-term consequences. Flor remains in intensive care, awaiting improvement.
Miguel hastily traveled to Colombia, leaving his life in Vancouver, Canada, to care for his mother during this critical period. Medical expenses and other costs are significantly burdening him.
