Love & Support for Rachel & Lisa
Donation protected
For those of us that love Rachel & Lisa, we know how proactive they are about their health & well-being. In early January 2020, Rachel underwent her first routine colonoscopy, ahead of many of her peers who begin at 50. Her world was completely turned upside down when a mass was found. The month was filled with multiple follow-up scans, appointments & biopsies. She & Lisa were devastated to hear the ultimate diagnosis of stage IV colorectal cancer.
Rachel will begin a course of chemotherapy in February. She will continue to work throughout treatment, taking days off as needed to recover. This will inevitably lead to a draining of paid-time off as well as mounting medical bills. Lisa will also be continuing to work, but is devoted to helping Rachel through each step of treatment & will be taking many days off as well.
This campaign is three-fold. We aim to raise enough funds to cover Rachel’s out of pocket medical expenses, both for this plan year, as well as the next fiscal year which will begin in July. We also want to cover any gaps in pay they may accrue during their intermittent time off throughout treatment. Lastly, we want to provide Rachel & Lisa with a cushion to continue to care for their overall well-being in whatever form that may be during this time.
This diagnosis & medical course is especially tender when considering what Rachel & Lisa have devoted their careers to. They met in grad school while in closely aligned programs—Rachel in occupational therapy, Lisa in physical therapy. They have worked for University of Utah Health Care for 14 years rehabilitating patients going through the most challenging of health situations. Rachel is well known for her very compassionate & thorough approach to caring for her patients. She truly goes above & beyond the requirements of her job to ensure her patients reach the height of their recovery potential & well-being. She has also spent countless hours educating future & current occupational therapists, to raise the bar on other clinician’s skillful delivery of services. She currently excels in her role as Rehab Stroke Educator, helping patients to understand their diagnosis & to take charge of their health moving forward.
Rachel & Lisa have made us all revel in jealousy at the adventures they fill their lives with. From grand world travels, to beautiful neighborhood dog walks, they have always taken work-life balance very seriously. They are truly examples of living each moment engaged & present in the simple & grand beauty of life. They put their well-being first but always with an eye for the global impact of their actions & ALWAYS ready to help a friend in need. Let’s rally to give them the love & support they will need during this time. Let’s alleviate any monetary stress that may loom during treatment. They would certainly do the same for each of us.
