Love Aboundz

Greetings, Good People!

For the past year and some change, I've been building pieces for “Love Aboundz,” my first solo art exhibition. Drawing upon pan-African history and artistic traditions, I experiment with color and affect to build multimedia and multi-sensory works of art that grapple with the challenges and triumphs of finding love within oneself, and within the world around us. The thirteen pieces of this exhibition include traditions of stitching, weaving, quilting, drawing, woodworking, sculpting, assemblage, and installation art, all of which are woven together by a narrative poem that explores ideas of kinship, love, and freedom.

As an artist, I create in pursuit of beauty, love, and joy, virtues that are often eclipsed by the violence and trauma of structural and interpersonal oppression. I also create to remind myself that possibilities abound through love. And that good ideas, ideas that are unbound by forces of greed and hate, can move the world along in a more inclusive and less exploitative way. This exhibition is an opportunity for me to share my findings and reflections with you all in a way that hopefully enriches you with love, joy, and hope.

As a part-time art teacher for the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services, I've literally spent my last dime on building this show and creating this experience--not because I have the luxury of doing so, but because I strongly believe in this work and its potential impact. In order to actualize my vision for this exhibition, which includes an opening reception that is *free*and open to the public, I have started this campaign to raise necessary funds to complete this project. Whatever money I am able to raise will go toward (1) purchasing remaining art supplies/materials, (2) paying for fabrication fees, (3) contracting vendors and *amazing* performers (see The Transformations Suite) for the opening reception, (4) repairing broken/overused equipment , and (5) offsetting costs for rehab on my hands/wrists (due to overuse of my forearm muscles).

If you are in a position to donate,  I would sincerely appreciate the support! And even if you are unable to support this project financially, I hope that you might consider sharing this link with family, friends, and/or anyone that would be interested in supporting this kind of project. Either way, I look forward to sharing this work with you all very soon!

w/Love & Gratitude,
Emeka
