Hi, my name is Samantha
I have a son called Leyton, he just turned 7 years old.
He has had a pretty tough life, mostly lived in hospital walls.
In 2023 he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. It was a tricky disease and he required a bone marrow transplant. He went to Bristol and the first transplant didnt take. He then received bone marrow from me which put him into remission in january 2024.
This came with complications;multiple infections, allergic reactions, increased inflammation, ICU trips, and due to having no immune system for a long time he got hhv6 encephalitis which nearly took his life, he did end up brain damaged because of this. This is extremely rare and theres very few survivors.
While in remission Leyton started to get seizures. He was diagnosed with Lennox Gastaut syndrome. It is a severe form of epilepsy and he has already tried alot of medications to get the seizures under control.
Despite all this Leyton became strong. He went to school. And his development was coming along, even though he got knocked right back, he had to learn to walk again, talk again and eat again basically. But so far he has achieved all this.
This year, 2.5 years into remission brought more worries. After some tests of his bone marrow he was told he has myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), again another rare condition that normally happens in adults. The only cure is a 3rd transplant. He needs this slightly tailored to suit Leyton and his condition. The NHS are not in a position to offer this. They have said the toxicity of a bone marrow transplant will kill him. They have said he will likely get years out of his disease and offered a medication regime that will not cure him but put him back into remission. I am going to take this treatment to try get more time for now. But i have researched international health care. Hospitals across the water can adapt a transplant to cure Leyton but also manage viral loads etc. I have to give him a chance. He doesnt understand but i know he would want to try and save his life.
I am desparately trying to raise the funds to get him overseas for treatment.
Anything will help. I dont normally do this but i need to save my boy.
