Campaign Story:
Meet Louise McLean – Canada’s Trailblazing Blind Lawn Bowler

If you've never heard of para lawn bowling, you're not alone. But if you’ve heard of Louise McLean, you already know she's rewriting history — one bowl at a time.

Louise is a blind lawn bowler from Kitchener, Ontario, who has risen through the ranks of para-sport with a powerful combination of skill, determination, and kindness. She's proudly represented Ontario and Canada on the national and international stage — and thanks to supporters like you, she's already made history.

In 2024, Louise became Canada’s first para-bowls international medalist, bringing home a bronze medal from the IBD World Championships in South Africa. She is also a two-time national champion in the B2 Women’s Singles category. None of this would’ve been possible without the generosity of past donors who helped cover the very real costs of competing as an amateur athlete with a disability.

What’s Happening in 2025?
This year, Louise has once again been selected to represent Canada and Ontario at two major tournaments:

The 2025 Atlantic International Challenge (AIC) – September 18–25 in Windsor, Ontario

Each tournament requires extensive training, travel, and accommodation for both Louise and her sighted guide and director, Carolyn Campbell, who plays a critical role on the green. These expenses include:
  • Athlete entry fees
  • Transportation and lodging for two
  • Equipment, training greens, and gear
  • Food and incidentals during competition week
  • Total fundraising goal: $3,000 CAD

❤️ Why Support Matters
Unlike professional athletes, amateur para-athletes like Louise receive little to no financial support. Competing at the national and international level is a passion — but it’s also expensive.

Your support helps Louise:

  • Continue her dream of competitive sport as a blind athlete
  • Represent Canada with pride on the world stage
  • Inspire other Canadians living with disabilities to stay active and pursue their goals

Show the world that kindness, perseverance, and talent can take you far — with the right support

How You Can Help
Donate – Any amount helps. Whether it’s $10, $25, $100, or more, every single dollar goes directly toward Louise’s competition costs.

Share – Please spread the word! Share this campaign with family, friends, or anyone who supports inclusive sport, para-athletes, or Canadian talent.

Louise bowls with heart, honour, and humility. Let’s make sure she gets the chance to shine in 2025.

Thank you for believing in her.
