Little Louis’ Big Battle With Lymphoma

On July 25th, Louis Stephen, the spirited, cheeky, much-loved little man of adoring parents Andy and Mahala – at just five-years-old, was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a rarer form of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma; cancer that develops in the lymphatic system.

Following an arduous and overwhelming journey of tests and scans, to finally receive the diagnosis that their little boy had been feeling so unwell because he’d been battling something so much more serious than anyone could have imagined – well, it’s hard to find the words for this; and to fully comprehend how they’ve been coping with the weight of it all.

We are positive and hopeful for a successful treatment and a complete recovery, not only because Louis is in the best medical hands, but also because while he may be little, boy is he strong. He gets that from his mum and dad.

However, unfortunately, the hardest part of the journey lies ahead. As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, Louis is now set to embark on at least six months of intensive chemotherapy at Westmead Children’s Hospital, which means uprooting their lives for the duration of his treatment, to live at Ronald McDonald House in Westmead. Following this, he’ll then need daily chemo tablets for another 18 months.

As you can imagine, the next six months living away from home, and putting their whole lives and work on hold while they put all of their focus into facing this fight head-on, and caring for their sick child, comes not only with intense emotional and physical challenges, but also financial ones.

Andy, Mahala, Louis, and his big sister Frankie are so loved by so many, and many people have asked how they can support during this extremely difficult time. We wanted to provide an opportunity for those who would like to support financially – no matter how big or small – to help ease some of the financial burden of this unexpected diagnosis, and allow Andy and Mahala to focus fully on what matters most.
