In 2011, we lost our beautiful wife and mother, Jean Smith. To honor her memory, we started the Lough-an-Leagh Moonwalk in 2012. This year marks 14 years of coming together as a community to remember Jean and support a cause so close to all of our hearts.
The Moonwalk takes place along Jean's absolute favorite route. She loved walking here, tracking the trails through the mountain heather and deep into the peaceful forests. Over the years, this walk has grown from a small family gathering into a massive community tradition. It is a night of connection, remembrance, and community spirit, all topped off with refreshments and a chat at the Lough-an-Leagh mountain picnic area—right between Kingscourt and Bailieborough.
Every single cent raised through this event goes directly to our local cancer charities, helping families in our community when they need it most.
How You Can Support Us This Year:
Join the Walk: We will be meeting on Saturday, June 27th at 8:00 PM at the Picnic Area. Entry is €10, and there will be refreshments afterwards.
Donate from Afar: We know life is busy and not everyone can make it to the mountain on the night. If you can’t walk with us in person but still want to support our local cancer charities, we have set up this page to make donating easy.
Whether you donate the price of a cup of coffee, share this link with a friend, or lace up your walking boots to join us on June 27th, we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing kindness.
Thank you for keeping Jean’s memory alive with us year after year.
— The Smith Family
