Loubie’s sudden surgery

Hello friends,
Many of you express the good willingness to help us with Loubie’s last minute health ordeal and while all this week I have concentrated all my energy to Loubie’s recovery is time to face the upcoming vet bills and follow ups.
As most of you know, Loubie suffered of sudden uterus infection and I knew right away something was wrong and with the help of a good vet friend I was able to see a first veterinarian in the middle of the holidays (Christmas) to confirm her diagnosis and started her on antibiotics.
Loubie was diagnosed with open pyometra.
The following day I took her to her regular vet to proceed with the surgery of removing her infected uterus, procedure that is more delicate than spaying.
Loubie did well with surgery and anesthesia but she is still showing elevated white blood cells count therefore the doctor decided to keep her under supervision for four days until today. She was getting IV fluids, antibiotics and a pain killer via her peak line and monitored 24/7.
With the love of all your prayers and good energy she is recovering well and today she started eating well. Therefore today Thursday 12/29/2021 she should be ready to go home with oral medication (antibiotics) to continue fighting any remaining infection and toxicities.
During this time I was able to read many comments and DMs from many of you who had a similar situation with your fur babies and shared your experience dealing with this; knowing that many of you had a good outcome helped me with a lot of the anxiety I have been dealing with since Christmas.
I also hope this post won’t trigger some hatred or people trying to make statement ‘why she was not spayed’, and allI I can say before making an assumption and criticize someone is good to get your facts and know what is the story behind, but also doing that criticism during the time someone is vulnerable is not the best approach.
I’m sharing this sentiment from the bottom of my heart because it hurts and people who knows our story know that Loubie is my everything.
I always wanted to have one litter from Loubie, just one litter to keep one or two of her puppies for me. Loubie has been very irregular on her heat cycles, and with that unpredictability it was difficult to plan it. Discussing with our doctor it was the time it was no longer a good idea to have her get puppies and we discussed that it was about time to spay but in the last 2-3 years we had a fire, we moved a few times and I had three surgeries. Two of them very serious, the first a ruptured appendix that kept me in the hospital fighting the infection (I was border to become septic) and after being discharged I had to wait 2-3 months to get the surgery to remove the appendix because my gut was very distressed and inflamed from the infection for a surgery. I was left very week.
Recovering and getting my strength back we got hit by Covid and while I would had love to work from home I had to be on-site since I work in a hospital and I had to be many times in the Covid ICU scared like everyone else, but I was working and still regaining my strength but then Thanksgiving a year ago (2020) after running (I used to run everyday) I started having a lot of pain on my right leg. As someone who stays very active I’m connected very well to my body and I knew it was just not a pulled muscle or strained and started looking for help, after testing and MRI of my right hip and back it was found that my right femur was dying, part of it was already dead cells and that was causing that excruciating pain.
After seeing some specialists I had surgery last January 2021 where the surgeon took a piece of healthy bone from the pelvic area (my belly is like and O and X game from all these surgeries now ), also they took some bone marrow to get stem cells. Another incision was done on my right leg were the femur was drilled to remove the dead cells and the healthy bone grafted and infused with the stem cells, the goal that the bone will grow back.
The recovery was long, painful and frustrating. I was on a wheelchair for over a month then about 4-5 more months in crutches. Again I wish I could work from home but I had to return to work besides I got to the point I was not being paid since my sick leave was exhausted. Luckily I have good new friends I met through Loubie’s social media who helped me walking Loubie, bringing me food, etc.
All these long ordeals postponed my plans to get Loubie spay. Up until now I limp every now and then depending on my activity but I started running, very slowly and short distances on a very space out schedule, my dream is to go back what I used to run: 5 miles everyday with an average of 7 mins per mile.
So there you go, I opened my heart to you so you can learn the facts before criticizing and criticizing anyone.
Life is not easy for anyone and Loubie and I know very well the word “resilience” but besides all these events I decided to continue being kind and smile, many people don’t know what pain is behind each person, each story….and by the way I have a job, someone said that I need to get a job and stop using Loubie (I run the language department “interpretations and translations” for a local hospital) currently 14 years on this administrative position and I love to interpret as well but don’t do it much since I have to run this program.
If you got this long and I run into you on the street please offer a smile, I will smile back.
To end I want to let you know that if we pass the amount we are fundraising for (I’m foreseeing I will be spending around 4K or more on current bills and follow up visits) The rest will be donated to one or two organizations in NYC that we are close to and we have been fundraising and helping to bring some awareness of their work (pet related)
I will be very happy to make a post about it, and if we can at the end of this ordeal also help some other organizations that are always looking for funds.

It’s been a very rewarding experience to see how much support and love we have been receiving for the pass few days, the amount of people joining every night during the updates I was doing via “Live IG” gave me a lot of energy and I was feeling less lonely, scared and anxious.
