Hello, my name is Carrie, and I’ve been friends with Lou-Ann since elementary school.

On Saturday, December 14th, Lou-Ann began struggling severely with her breathing. She went to the Emergency Room, where she was quickly transferred to the ICU. Lou-Ann was diagnosed with Status Asthmaticus, a life-threatening asthma attack that does not respond to medications. While this condition is often managed with oxygen masks and steroids, Lou-Ann’s case was much more severe, and her breathing continued to worsen.

Doctors made the difficult decision to place her in a medically induced coma and intubate her, relying on a ventilator to breathe for her.

As of today, December 18th, Lou-Ann remains in the ICU. She tested positive for Enterovirus/Rhinovirus—essentially a common cold—which is what the doctor thinks caused the Status Asthamticus. Thankfully, there have been small signs of improvement. She is now semi-conscious as the medical team works to wean her off sedatives, but she is still intubated and reliant on the ventilator.

Lou-Ann is a single mom living on her own, and as she faces a long road to recovery, she will likely need financial assistance to help her get back on her feet. Although they are separated, the child’s father is still present and is lovingly taking great care of their son while she is going through this.

I know Christmas is right around the corner and things are tight for all of us. However, if anybody has anything to spare, we would graciously accept any donations that you can give. We are not asking or expecting much, we just want to help her to be able to come out of this without too much burden. Any amount is greatly appreciated, there is nothing too small.
