Lotti’s New Wheelchair Lottje’s neuer Rollstuhl

Hi everyone, my name is Lotti and I have cerebral palsy, as I was born prematurely at 26 weeks. I am an international student currently studying in the UK aiming to obtain a graduate degree. Over the past couple of years, I’ve had to battle with increasing scoliosis and debilitating back pain. In trying to find the right treatment, it became clear that my current manual wheelchair is entirely unsuitable for my progressing medical situation.

In order to prevent surgery and for the pain to lessen, I would need a completely new chair, including seating, moulded to fit my “crippled” back to help set my body on a path for recovery. This chair (including the individualized seating and all the necessary appointments) is 10k. (The overall goal is a bit higher, since I would also have to cover all the subsequently necessary appointments or repairs by myself.)

Unfortunately, my insurance refuses to cover even part of it, as they say, that they’re already covering my electric wheelchair and they pretend that an electric one and an active one, are to be one and the same which of course, they are not. According to them,, “being active” is apparently not necessary, nor is preventing surgery.

I cannot sue them, as I simply do not have the time a lawsuit would take, from a medical point of view. It would, most likely, take at least 3 years for a lawsuit to reach a conclusion (and three years would be the optimistic scenario). Medically speaking, my spine cannot afford three years of sitting in a position that does not support its recovery.

Hence, I am here asking you to donate the money, you might’ve spent on today’s coffee.

I don’t feel that it is right, that I should be sitting here asking for your money for what are medical essentials, but I as explained above, I don’t have any other option.

Tja, was soll ich sagen, mein neuer Aktiv-Rollstuhl wurde nun endgültig abgelehnt. Aber von vorne:

Ich bin Lottje, 27 Jahre alt momentan Masterstudentin in Cambridge, UK. Ich wurde in der 26. SSW geboren und habe aufgrund dessen eine Tetraspastik. Seit einigen Jahren verschlechtert sich die Skoliose, die damit einhergeht, leider zusehends. Mittlerweile habe ich dadurch leider täglich Schmerzen.

Bei entsprechenden Untersuchungen hat sich herausgestellt, dass der Aktiv-Rollstuhl, den ich seit 8 Jahren nutze, meiner Haltung mehr schadet, als hilft. Deswegen muss nun ein neuer Rollstuhl her, um der OP vorzubeugen. Der kostet leider, weil die Sitzschale individuell angepasst werden muss, um die 10.000 Euro. (Das Spendelziel liegt ein bisschen höher, da ich dann auch alle zukünftig notwendigen Reperaturen und Termine werde selbst bezahlen müssen).

Als arme Studentin habe ich so viel Geld logischerweise leider nicht zur Verfügung.

Die Krankenkasse zahlt leider nicht. Sie behaupten, da ich bereits einen Elektrorollstuhl für Langstrecken habe, würden sie mich damit quasi „Doppelt“-versorgen, weil beides dasselbe sei. Das ein Elektrorollstuhl und ein Aktivrollstuhl keineswegs dasselbe sind, sieht die KK nicht ein. Anscheinend ist auch eine dringend notwendige OP-Prävention für die Kasse kein Argument.

Einklagen kann ich mich nicht, weil es schlicht und ergreifend zu lange dauern würde. Für Entscheidungen in der 1. Instanz mindestens 2-3 Jahre. Da ich mir nicht sicher sein kann, ob mein Körper es bis dahin aushalten würde und es wirklich darum geht noch mehr Schmerzen und eine OP zu verhindern, muss ich nun diesen Weg gehen.

Ich bitte euch inständig um eure Hilfe (und sei es nur eine „Kaffeespende“) Falls ihr nicht spenden könnt, würde es mir immens helfen, wenn ihr diesen Link soweit wie möglich teilen könntet.
