Ciao, dopo una vita passata a lottare tra le correnti dei fiumi, aver disputato 5 Olimpiadi, esser diventata mamma di due splendide ragazze, ora anche loro sulla cresta dell' onda nei rispettivi sport (salto con l'asta e tennis), 5 anni fa è arrivata una diagnosi inesorabile come un fulmine a ciel sereno: tumore al pancreas, aspettativa di vita 6 mesi!

Dopo 5 anni sto ancora disputando la mia battaglia perché sono allenata a lottare, ma è una malattia che al momento non ha cura, al quarto stadio con metastasi sparse. Dopo tante operazioni, tanti cicli di chemio e cure sperimentali, sono di nuovo qui in balia delle correnti.

Vorrei tentarle tutte, ma molte terapie attualmente sono costose perché sperimentali, vorrei anche permettere alle mie figlie di realizzare i loro sogni sportivi che sono un po' anche i miei, ciò che tutte le mattine mi dà ancora e nonostante tutto entusiasmo e forza.

La malattia mi ha fatto capire l'importanza di avere a fianco una rete di persone che ci sostiene quando ci sembra che sia diventata troppo dura. Mi piacerebbe vedere questa rete allargarsi e abbracciarci simbolicamente, darci un sostegno ora che il percorso è di nuovo molto molto in salita.

Hi, after a life spent battling the currents of rivers, competing in five Olympic Games, and becoming the mother of two wonderful girls, now also riding high in their respective sports (pole vaulting and tennis), five years ago came a diagnosis that was as inexorable as a bolt from the blue: pancreatic cancer, life expectancy 6 months! Five years later, I'm still fighting my battle because I'm trained to fight, but it's a disease with no cure at the moment, stage four with widespread metastases. After many surgeries, many rounds of chemotherapy, and experimental treatments, I'm back at the mercy of the currents. I'd like to try everything, but many therapies are currently expensive because they're experimental. I'd also like to allow my daughters to realize their sporting dreams, which are also, in a way, my own, which still gives me enthusiasm and strength every morning, despite everything. The disease has made me realize the importance of having a network of people at our side who support us when it feels like it's become too much. I'd like to see this network expand and symbolically embrace us, giving us support now that the path is once again very much in the making.
