Hello everyone, my name is Mag (AKA Magpie or Magpiepony on Youtube). I am here on behalf of my lovely wife Larissa (AKA Lost, or TheLostNarrator on Youtube).
Let me start with a short little TL;DR (Too long; didn’t read) of the situation, whereas the full explanation and details will follow for those interested.
My wife will be needing a major surgery: A full hysterectomy, on July 22nd, 2025. She is in continual, excruciating pain and has been since April of this year. Our insurance told us an approximation of what we should expect to pay, and it is MINIMUM of $9,200 for the surgery, plus physical therapy (not covered) and living expenses during recovery. We are already drowning financially even before this surgery, so I am here reaching out to ask for help. As time has gone on, Larissa’s condition worsened as her pain gradually got worse. Most days she couldn’t even get out of bed, so not only is this surgery necessary, it’s ultimately life-saving. Any kind of support, well wishes, thoughts, and prayers are appreciated. Luckily, after this surgery, she should make a full recovery (fingers crossed.) Thank you so much for reading!
And now for more detailed explanations:
Let me start from the beginning. Back in March 2016, Larissa was rushed to the ER due to intense abdominal pain. After immediate testing, the doctors discovered a basketball sized cyst growing on her right fallopian tube. I truly wish I was exaggerating about the size, but I am not. It was a 22 pound mass growing from her right fallopian tube with almost 10 liters of fluid inside. The fact that it hadn’t yet ruptured is nothing short of a miracle. The surgeon was able to keep everything intact except the tube, which had to be removed as it was damaged beyond repair. (The surgeon was also kind enough to take a picture of the cyst and its contents, which are on a google doc linked here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dI-ZMrJrfMzBOK9iyfQO3IdF4pdjmWdD2iD9hsQoJs/edit?usp=sharing). I was dating Larissa long distance at the time, so I flew to California to be by her side for her surgery and post-op care. I started a GoFundMe back then, as I am now, and it is only because of the generosity and love from our friends, family, and fans that Larissa was able to make a full recovery and able to handle the staggering medical bills. The cyst was tested after it was removed, and found to be noncancerous, so the medical staff told us that with proper check-ups, she would likely not have to worry about something like this happening again. And yet, here we are.
Fast forward a little bit, Larissa moved to my home state with me and we found her an OBGYN we really liked. The OB diagnosed Larissa with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), but with birth control and bi-yearly testing, her condition was manageable. That was, until this year.
In April 2025, Larissa started experiencing an intense abdominal pain on her right side, similar to the pain she’d experienced with the cyst in 2016. She initially turned me down when I wanted to take her to the ER, citing our financial strain and our less-than-cooperative insurance. She suffered for two days until I got her in to see her OBGYN and they performed an ultrasound, and unfortunately they did find a mass in the general area of her right ovary. Testing was done to ensure the mass was not cancerous, and I’m happy to say there was no cancer present! After some headache-inducing back-and-forth with our insurance, Larissa was able to get a second ultrasound and an MRI to identify the mass and any other problems. What they found were three fibroids in her uterus, (and for those who don’t know what that is: Fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in or on the muscular wall of the uterus.) and a large pedunculated fibroid growing on the outside of the uterus which the doctor described as, “The size of a baby’s head.” (Later, due to the MRI, the exact measurements of the pedunculated fibroid were discovered as being 6 cm by 5.1 cm.) This externally growing fibroid was pushing Larissa’s uterus into her intestines and spine, causing minor damage to her spine as well as incredible amounts of pain. It had also slightly grown from the time of the first ultrasound to the second, which is alarming. Additionally, Larissa was diagnosed with Adenomyosis. A quick Google search of the term explains it best:
“Adenomyosis is a condition where the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrium) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus (myometrium). This can cause the uterus to thicken and enlarge which leads to symptoms like heavy and painful periods, pelvic pain, and potentially infertility.”
The OB informed us that Larissa would need a major surgery, as these conditions were incurable. We met with a surgeon, a lovely woman that we both like very much, who gave us the run-down of what to expect. Larissa’s uterus, cervix, and remaining fallopian tube will be removed. The surgeon wants to try to leave the ovaries, as taking those would send Larissa into early menopause and would require hormone therapy and a much longer recovery period (And I imagine, a much higher cost). She cannot tell us whether or not she can keep them in until she performs the surgery and checks them for any abnormalities or warning signs. The type of surgery will also not be determined until the day of, as her first surgery’s incision may cause complications due to scar tissue. This means Larissa’s recovery could be anywhere from a day in the hospital with 2-3 weeks of recovery to weeks in the hospital and 6 months of recovery. We were advised by the surgeon to plan for the worst, but hope for the best. Larissa’s surgery will take place on July 22nd, 2025.
This brings me to the creation of the GoFundMe. Larissa and I are self employed (We make our living being Youtubers), but our finances are greatly struggling at the moment. Our insurance company did approve the surgery (thank God), but quoted our portion of the cost to be around $9,200. This does not include physical therapy, which Larissa will need with recovery due to the damage to her spine. This also doesn't include the cost for any hopsital stay afterwards, it's just for the surgery itself. In addition, Larissa will be unable to work for the stretch of time she will need to recover, and my income alone is currently not able to provide for all of our basic needs (i.e. food, rent, bills, etc). Larissa was looking for part time work outside of our self employment prior to all of this happening, but obviously she cannot do anything of the sort until this is all over. Therefore, I come to you again asking for help. My wife is my whole world, she is my light and my joy and seeing her suffer this, and stress about the costs we will incur, has absolutely broken my heart. Thank you all so very much for reading this. I will absolutely be updating this page every time we learn something new, and all along her road to recovery.
