We built our house 12 years ago and now it's gone. Along with it, we've lost a good chunk of our income since we had tenants that we relied on. Of course, we still have to keep paying our mortgage even though the house isn't there anymore.

We plan to rebuild if we get enough from our insurance company, but we have many expenses that won't be covered. My husband and I have two daughters (10 and 14 years old) and we don't have a home to return to, even when the evacuation orders are lifted. My daughters' schools are closed till the end of the month, but even when they reopen, I don't know how far we'll have to drive to get them there. It all depends on where we will be staying.

I wasn't sure what to set our fundraising goal at because it feels like we need so much. I don't like asking friends for help, but it's many of my friends that have encouraged me to do this. Since I realize that we really do need help, I've gone ahead and set this up.

Only give what's comfortable, and only if you really want to.
