UPDATE: Thanks to our friends and family, we were able to get a small building, replace the grandkids carseat, and a few tools so far. We can't thank you guys enough!
Hi. My name is Krista and I have never ever done anything like this in my life.
About 3 years ago, my husband lost his job as a diesel mechanic and decided to change careers due to age. He went back to school and obtained his degree in Forestry. During that time, we also moved into my parents' home and were not able to get insurance on it due to the age of the roof and the aluminum siding. During his schooling, he did work as an intern at Rend Lake, but with the huge pay cut, we just could not afford a roof and needed repairs. Lots of prayer got us through those 3 years. He is now hired on full-time as of May of this year, and we had plans of doing the roof this fall and the siding this spring so that we could finally get insurance and breathe.
Tragedy struck us though last weekend on 9/6/25. I was on my way to buy more wedding flowers for our daughter in my grandson's van. My mom called and said my car and garage were on fire and she had called 911. I was about 20 minutes away, and Mike was at work. By the time the fire departments got there, the garage was fully engulfed. My car was a total loss. The insurance is covering the car, thank God, but no contents, and nothing in the garage will be covered. He lost all his tools, mowers, weed eaters, air compressors, a welder, and many, many more valuable items.
I understand this is our fault and we should be thankful to have not lost our house in it as well. I am just trying to be able to get a small building to store anything that we can replace and to start buying back his tools. He still works on cars for others and lawn mowers. He is always keeping our kids' vehicles running and ours as well. I know I can't replace all 30 years' worth of tools he had, but we would love to get the minimum so he can keep helping people. If you can't donate, please share, anything at this time will help. Thank you for taking the time to read this and send a little prayer our way!
