My brother’s journey has been one of resilience, courage, and hope — and heartbreak.

We grew up in Airlie Beach as kids, a place that always felt like home. After many years away, during which life became difficult and heavy, he made the life-changing decision to return to Airlie Beach and start fresh. From the moment he arrived, it felt like a magical turning point — as though the town itself wrapped its arms around him and helped him rebuild.

Less than a year ago, he worked hard to purchase a yacht, which became his home. While there was debt to pay off, none of that mattered to us — we were simply so proud that he finally had stability, safety, and somewhere to belong.

Sadly, Cyclone Koji brought that chapter to a devastating end.

On Sunday at lunchtime, his yacht broke free from its mooring — just one hour short of holding on. He was able to get off the boat and reach safety, but then had to watch helplessly as his only home — one he had owned for less than a year — was pushed into the rocks right in front of him. In a matter of moments, everything he owned was lost.

Like many others impacted by the cyclone, there was no insurance. His yacht — his home — along with all of his personal belongings, is now completely gone.

He is now trying to rebuild his life from nothing, through no fault of his own.

We are reaching out in the hope of raising funds to help him with immediate necessities — meals, clothing, and basic living expenses — and to give him a small foundation to begin again.
