Hello everyone,

My name is Rebecca Holmes, and I'm the proud sister of Jaylie Holmes. I'm starting this fundraiser on behalf of her and her partner, Duncan Riddell, because they would never ask for help themselves - even when they truly need it like they do right now.

Last night, Jaylie and Duncan woke up to a nightmare. By the time they realized what was happening, their home was already filling with smoke and flames, and their emergency exits were engulfed. They managed to get out okay but within minutes their entire home was consumed by fire. Leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their back.

For those of you who don't know Jaylie well, she is a volunteer firefighter for Monte Creek, just like our parents. She has spent so much of her free time helping others through moments exactly like this. Which makes this even more heartbreaking - being on the other side, forced to watch her own home go up in flames. They lost everything. From their cars, phones, clothes and personal belongings - to their two beautiful kitties, Honey and Bee -who they loved like children- Our hearts are completely broken for them.

This comes just a few days after a devastating tragedy in Duncan's family. They were preparing to travel to Toronto tomorrow to be with loved ones, and now are facing the added stress of replacing essential documents like passports and ID's.

We are incredibly grateful that they made it out safely, but now they are starting from nothing. Any support - whether it's a donation, sharing this page, or even just keeping them in your thoughts - will go a long way in helping them take the first step forward.
