Dave Matthews was seriously injured as the result of a suspected DUI crash near the Ferry Point tunnel in Point Richmond Sunday morning, June 21st, 10:12 a.m., when a motorist who made a u-turn at the Ferry Point tunnel struck a passing truck, which then crashed into several parked cars. Dave was loading items in his car, was pinned between two vehicles. Blood hemorrhaged from his lower legs. An air ambulance landed and transported Dave to John Muir Walnut Creek. Tragically, Dave lost his 2 legs, 1 at the knee and 1 below the knees.
The medical costs, emotional pain and suffering are tremendously costly. He will need acute rehabilitation, home care nursing and prosthetics.
Dave was extremely active and won awards in open water swim all over the world, swam Master’s swim at Heather Farm, cycled every day, and worked out.
He’s also an accomplished sculpture artist, and his sculpture has been shown in various galleries and exhibits in California.
We will prosecute the drunk driver once Dave is more stable. It’s so traumatic and tragic.
Our family appreciates all your help, support and prayers at this difficult and challenging time.
