Lost a kidney, so...we'd love your help!

Donation protected
UPDATE 18 January 2025:
Shakir had his kidney removed 1 month ago thanks to all of you for your help and is recovering and improving physically each day.
The mental struggle is something you don't hear so much about and now he has 5 years of regular scans ahead of him and many different alternative therapies in order to make sure his stress levels are down so he can maintain his health and ensure that his immune system is as strong as possible.
Mindfulness, meditations, yoga, naturopathy, ,cognitive & hypno therapy, vitamin infusions, specialist appointments not very covered my medicare.
He has taken out private healthcare now but it wont be usable for any pre-existing conditions for a year.
We will leave this gofundme open just for anyone who wants to donate but we cant stress enough that we don't want anyone to feel pressured or obliged or judged if they can't.
Its just here in case anyone really wants to help and so its a good way to do so easily.
Thank you all so much for everything you have done so far and for all your words of support too. It makes such a difference to me (Shakir). x

Two weeks ago, my husband, and Sharif's amazing father Shakir, hurt his back while doing some heavy lifting and got a CT Scan to see why the pain hadn't gone away in a week.

The scan came back showing a 5cm tumour in his right Kidney!

To say we were shocked was an understatement.

He is physically healthy but mentally this has been complete torture for him and all of us.
We then spent the weekend waiting until his GP appointment the following Tuesday where he was referred for an urgent second CT scan with contrast dye, confirming the tumour looked most likely malignant.

Another contrast CT scan - with yet more waiting for results - to see if it had spread anywhere else in his body thankfully turned up clear.

All this time, Shakir has only been concerned about his family and the possibility of leaving his little boy Sharif without a father and me without a husband. He hasn't worried about himself once but instead keeps saying "'S*it hits so differently when you are a parent! and I'm so worried to leave you both."

Serendipitously, a friend of Shakir's sister who had the same thing happen to him reached out and he highly recommended his private surgeon who is ahead of her game.

Shakir's friends and family have all been saying "PLEASE START A GOFUNDME NOW" and he has been saying no. He feels it is unfair because he could just go to public hospital but the reason he isn't is we want the best possible doctor and urgently require the removal of the entire kidney rather than waiting in public for who knows how long like a ticking time-bomb!

Our lack of health cover means that everything needs to be paid upfront.

Surgeon, Theatre, Anaesthetist, Nurses, Hospital stay and follow ups etc etc.

Just the main things will add up in the tens of thousands, not including incidentals, pathology, tests, follow up care and loss of any work during recovery.

It took a lot of friends and talking him into allowing for a go fund me and I guess this is just here for people who would like to contribute in any way they want in any amount without asking him.

He has refused giving a lot of friends his bank details because he is proud and stubborn but he is also very touched that people want to help and we really do appreciate you all. Even just the kind words of support with no money helps.

Needless to say, he is incredibly up and down at the moment and trying to be strong to keep doing his part as a father through all this and not show Sharif that anything is wrong. But it's really affecting his mental health right now with stress and panic on a level that only someone who has been through this as a parent will understand.

So I've started this. This is our story and here is how you can help if you wish to. Of course, it's totally fine if you can't.
