Help Save Cavity Nesters in Los Padres NF

Tax deductible

Want to join me in making a difference? My name is Jeri Edwards and I'm spearheading this GoFundMe campaign for a local project right here in our 'backyard' - Los Padres National Forest.  I'm raising money and awareness for this local project, sponsored by the Teton Raptor Center in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Teton Raptor Center is a 501(c)3 organization and has been in existence since 1997.

Here's why I am so passionate about this project within Los Padres National Forest:
Each year thousands of cavity-nesters - animals that prefer dark, narrow spaces for nesting and roosting, such as owls, other birds of prey and small birds - become entrapped in vertical open pipes of the Vault toilets (or commonly called pit toilets) found in most of our public lands across the country, including Los Padres National Forest.  These toilets feature 12" vertical ventilation pipes that mimic the natural cavities preferred by various bird species. Once the bird enters one of these pipes it cannot get out, suffering a terrible death.

But installing a durable and affordable steel screen developed by the Teton Raptor Center will put an end to these deaths. They are being installed all over the US, Canada, with over 14,000 screens already distributed!

When I found out that ZERO screens have been installed  in the Los Padres National Forest I decided to create this campaign and ask for your partnership in purchasing screens for all the vault toilet pipes within the Los Padres National Forest and campgrounds, including Cerro Alto Campground off of Highway 41 outside of Morro Bay.

Here's the breakdown:

13 screens needed for the Mt. Pinos, Ojai and Santa Barbara districts.  44 screens for all the campgrounds which include the Santa Lucia and Monterey districts.

Each screen costs just a little over $40. Any amount is appreciated! Your tax-deductible contribution will go directly to purchasing the screens for Los Padres National Forest and campgrounds.

I'm passionate about being an advocate for wildlife, and we have a tremendous, affordable opportunity to make a big impact for our cavity-nesting birds in the Los Padres National Forest.

Won't you join me in helping to support cavity-nesting birds in our 'backyard' forest?
