Last weekend Lorne's family had quite the scare. Lorne was born with a rare heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Up until now it has not caused him many issues, until last Sunday when he suffered a heart attack while he was driving, which led to a collision. Lorne is extremely lucky not to have suffered any major injuries from the collision, and is thankful no one else was hurt either. To the bystanders who called 911, got him out of his vehicle & started CPR immediately, you saved his life and cannot be thanked enough.
He is recovering after being on a ventilator for about 24hrs, having many tests and procedures, and is now waiting on a transfer to Toronto for advanced cardiac care. Professionals in Toronto will conduct further studies so this can be prevented from ever happening again in the future. Lorne will likely need either an implanted cardiac defibrillator, or an ablation.
All staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre have been incredible to both Lorne and his family, and cannot be thanked enough. Being admitted in the hospital with two children to care for is difficult for both Lorne and his partner Serena. Lorne is in great spirits as per usual and thankfully well on his way to recovery. So many people have reached out to see how they can help. Both Lorne and Serena are away from work during this unexpected and difficult time, while still caring for two children and preparing for their upcoming travel to Toronto for medical care. If anyone is able, and would like to support Lorne, Serena and their family, your contributions will forever be appreciated.
